Slant Press

Personal Side Project

Slant Press was a multidisciplinary print studio selling small batch, hand printed products, and a passion project that I operated from 2017 until 2021. As an outlet for my more whimsical and experimental work, Slant Press was an opportunity for me to build a brand around an existing, but evolving body of work, rather than a larger brand concept. My intention was two fold.

1. Continue and motivate a personal practice that focused on producing analog work through screen printing and letterpress.

2. Find the common thread that bound together disparate work to bring them together under one brand umbrella.

The brand decisions were informed by my desire to appeal to fine art lovers, gift givers, and consumers with a slightly unconventional sense of beauty.

The logo incorporates elements of vintage packaging typography with reduced ornamentation to lend a modern appeal to a traditional typographic treatment. Mild texturing and a flexible container system make the identity easily translatable to multiple uses, including signage, web, packaging and marketing.

While this was always a scrappy endeavor, my intention was to infuse the brand with thoughtful details through a combination of consistency and authenticity. The brand system used a combination of muted tones with high contrast graphics to highlight the level of detail in the products. Each product was designed and screen printed by hand, signed, numbered and sent with a note of thanks for supporting independent artists.
